The Science of Stress, Resilience and Overcoming Adversity
Dr Tom Buckley is one of the world’s leading researchers on stress and resilience. His biggest learnings, however, aren’t from the lab. Overcoming cancer at 12 years and almost dying on a mountain bike accident earlier this year have taught him invaluable life lessons.
Dr Tom Buckley is an internationally recognised expert on the impact of stress on human health and wellbeing. He is currently Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney and heads the StriveStronger Research Institute.
Dr Tom has qualifications in Health Sciences including a Masters degree in Nursing specialising in intensive care and cardiology and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). His doctoral studies were recognised internationally as ground-breaking, identifying physiological pathways associated with life stressors. He developed a program of research in the identification and management of cardiovascular risk factors as well as developing expertise in the human factors of performance and behavioural science. His work is regularly featured on national and international TV, radio and print media. Dr Tom is also co-author of MatchFit.
